L-Glutamine - The Facts
Every once in while you get introduced to a new nutritional
supplement, and although this supplement has been around
for sometime now, it is once again making a big splash
on the supplement scene, so let me introduce you to the
benefits of L-Glutamine.
Glutamine
is the most common Amino Acid found in your Muscles-over
61% of Skeletal Muscle is Glutamine. Glutamine consists
of 19% Nitrogen, making it the primary transporter of
Nitrogen into your Muscle Cells.
During
intense Training, Glutamine levels are greatly depleted
in your body, which decreases strength, stamina and
recovery. It could take up to 6 days for Glutamine levels
to return to normal.
Glutamine is high in demand during periods of stress
(especially during workouts)
Although manufactured naturally in the body, it is at
such times that supplementation becomes extremely important
since natural production of this amino acid will not
be adequate to prevent catabolism (Metabolic breakdown).
Because L-Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid
in the body it has been shown to Increase Muscle Protein
Synthesis, Increase Cell Volume, Increase Immune Function,
Increase Intra-muscular Stores of Glutamine and Maintain
Acid-Base Balance
Taking
5-10grams immediately after your training will help
to stop muscle cell volume decreasing, improve muscle
mass and speed recovery. If you are Bodybuilding and
have a high intense program it is recommended that you
consume more Glutamine, an example would be 2-3 times
per day with each serving consisting of 5-10grams of
Glutamine, the best times are in the morning, after
your workout and before bed time.
L-Glutamine
